Bloghoppers

Posted by Sharkbait at 01:48 AM on August 13, 2006.

There are several kinds of people here in Tabulas who I have grown to dislike.

I don't like the posers, people who force themselves to speak fluent english. The end result is an entry with a series of typographical errors that make no sense whatsoever.

I don't like bashers. People who try to put down other people just because this is cyberspace and they can't get what they deserve. My sympathies to Karlo and Camz. I hope your number one fan gets tired of it soon.

And last, I dislike the ever so rampant bloghopper.

And that is what my entry is about. I guess the title makes it pretty obvious.

I've been a tabulas user for, say, two years now. Over the last two years I can't count how many times my tagboard has been cluttered with "Bloghopping", "Blogtimizing", "Just dropping by", and "Hey, nice". Honestly, I can't think of a more pathetic way to get people to check out your site. Isn't there a better way to get some attention?

I dunno, look at my site. It's basic. It's the default template that tabulas provides. Now click on my profile, check out the "friends of" list. Yeah, that's a lot. It's not because of my site. It's because of the way I write.

Bloghopping is a bore. It's a desperate way to call attention to yourself. Don't get me wrong. I bloghop. I tag in tagboards. But I actually read the entries. I don't just tag in tagboards and advertise my site. So if you're a bloghopper, try doing it that way. If you're gonna "just drop by", why don't you check out what the site has to offer. Otherwise, you're just being pathetic.

Thanks to the wonders of modern technology. There are a bunch of liars out there. Turns out people who say that they read your blog, don't. My good friend, Grubb, through some kind of tracker, concluded that people spend like 10 seconds in your site.

So please, next time some dude tags you with the aforementioned phrases, don't humor him. Because you're just rewarding him. If his blog really is worth reading, good. Otherwise, let him keep tagging.

---------------------

Oh, and by the way. I have made friends who did that to me. But their blogs are actually worth my time.

wow powerful ah.

Honestly, sometimes it can really be annoying. But let us try to be more understanding. Some people just want to get your attention by means of saying "drop by" but that is just one of the reasons. Others, probably tried reading your entry (which is well written but very long) so they end up tagging instead of giving a comment.

Posers-- maybe they are just trying to practice the English language (and not to mention the grammar). Again, let us be more considerate because they might be learning and growing by forcing themselves to be fluent.

Sorry if I sound like lecturing.

But you are right. It's all in the writing. Though, personally I like a blog which is visually stimulating and worth reading.

By the way, what about the plagiarists? Aren't they contemptible? haha..and the lurkers?

This is a very late comment...

Taggers are a type of online personality, quite easy to spawn in the blogging community, especially with this voyeuristic widget called tagboard.

As a blogger, I put more premium in reader comments to an entry I posted, because it validates why I blog in the first place: to share my ideas and experience, and to learn new ones from others. A tagboard conveniently shuttles that need, and further encourages lazy communication when messages could be done privately thru email or with relevance thru post comments.

When I first visit a blog, I go to the Archives and scan the earliest 5 posts and go forward to the 5 latest entries. That usually is enough to decide if I'm wasting my time or not :) But that's just me.

Well, mister Norman. We are actually kind of similar. I also choose not to waste time on the tagboard. I don't, however, own the patience that you possess. I limit myself to the first four or five entries and that's when I decide if the blog is worth reading. Then I leave a message in the tagboard requesting permission to comment.

nice entries..they're really deep and meaningful. i agree with this one. i spend about an hour bloghopping when i get the chance, but i read the actual blogs. i've learned a lot doing that. got your link from karlo's site..hope you don't mind. i sure hope their number one fan stops soon.
Comment posted on August 19th, 2006 at 09:22 PM
Wow, thanks dude. That means a lot because I really put my heart into writing. It's my passion.

No, I don't mind at all. I didn't know I was advertised in his site. Haha. Yeah, I hope so. It looks like she's beginning to tire, though.
Comment posted on August 18th, 2006 at 02:07 PM
PHOTOSHOPPED! Lol! Just kidding.

I agree *nod nod*. :-D

ever noticed some bashers don't leave their links? I wonder why.
Comment posted on August 18th, 2006 at 09:55 PM
Photoshopped? I don't get it.

Ya, because they're not brave enough? But then again, anyone naman who picks a fight online isn't brave enough. Haha.
Comment posted on August 19th, 2006 at 10:44 AM
who's their number one fan? I'm getting dizzy with all the posts @_@ i donno where to look.
Comment posted on August 19th, 2006 at 09:16 PM
Same here. Haha. Someone's been bashing them for quite sometime now. He'd go to other people's tagboards and post some profanities and humiliating messages pretending to be them.
Comment posted on August 19th, 2006 at 10:37 AM
"Photoshopped!!" is like where someone posts something and there will always be one who'd pipe in even though it's not Photoshopped. Lol. xD You know, to kinda ease the tension. hehe.

Amen to that dude. One time I posted something about my life and my epiphany and this dude corrected me as if I should have failed instead of succeeded. Now that's being bitter to the 10th level. I think i still have my post but I deleted his comment. Hehehe. We still got the power.

And to irk him more I deleted his comment even before anyone gets the chance to read it. He eventually stopped. Lol.
Comment posted on August 19th, 2006 at 09:18 PM
Wow, yeah, that is bitter. Haha.
Comment posted on August 18th, 2006 at 01:03 PM
i've been a tabulas user for a year and a half. some would actually leave a message just to mock at you..and yes, i get that a lot.
Comment posted on August 18th, 2006 at 09:52 PM
Tagal na ah. I never came upon your site before. I've been a user for two years na ata.

Yeah, look at my tagboard. Even <b>with</b> this entry, people <b>still</b> go about it.
Comment posted on August 18th, 2006 at 01:13 AM
but really, how would you kow they actually checked your site or not?

i tag when i check a site only if the site has stuffs i like reading, or when its just really pretty. but its not a way to ask them to check yours. unless you tag them with "daan ka by my site too ha?" then again, i don't get people. i' wired weird that way.
Comment posted on August 18th, 2006 at 09:24 AM
Like i mentioned, there's this tracker thing that lets you know how long someone was in your site. So if they were in for 10 seconds, and they tagged na they like your entries, then that's obviously a lie.
Comment posted on August 19th, 2006 at 10:15 AM
hm... speed reader?

hahaha!

how do u got a hold of that tracker thingy?

haha 'yaan mo na those who don't agree with you. :) i like bloghopping myself, but like you, i also read entries. unfortunately, i think i read them too seriously that when i make comments, the blog owners are like, "who are you???" coz i commiserate with them when they've broken up w/someone or something, even if i don't know them personally. hahaha
Comment posted on August 16th, 2006 at 10:34 PM
Same here dude. That's why now, I ask first before I comment. I think too many people got weirded out na by me just up and giving advice or whatever.

what the heck! what's your problem ba ? as if di ka naman isa sa bloghopper. papansin masyado.
Comment posted on August 16th, 2006 at 08:07 AM
What's my problem? What's <b>your</b> problem?

Oo, I bloghop. But I don't leave tags just to advertise my site. I <b>read</b> entries. I ask permission if I can comment.

Next time na magpapaangas ka, pakilala ka ha. Chaka wag ka magpaangas ng basta basta, lalo kung di mo alam kung ano sinasabi mo. Ayan, napahiya ka tuloy.
Comment posted on August 17th, 2006 at 08:48 PM
kawawang corvette.. tsktsk.. sino kaya ang papansin.. baka hindi nya naintindihan yung entry kasi english. LOL! sorry, i just can't resist it.. XD

Haha, it's ok. Nagmamarunong kasi. He just got schooled.
Comment posted on August 15th, 2006 at 06:17 AM
she does seem to be getting tired of it already. :) i hope. thanks, btw.

the phrase bloghopping is about to become a cliche in the near future. haha. you haven't seen the worst, some actively advertise their site. i like bloghopping. i tag when i feel like it. i used to have a long list in my "friend of" (before i took myself out from their friends list, i mean), but i've gotta admit that's because mostly of my layouts. some people like my designs. :) writing is more of my bf's avenue, hehe. and also because i like to read and comment on my friendss' entries.

the thing is, you've gotta like something about the site at least, and you've gotta <i>mean</i> it. otherwise, you become a budding spammer. haha.
Comment posted on August 15th, 2006 at 06:46 AM
Spammer. There you go!!! That's the word I was looking for. Hahaha. I have a lot of friends of din eh. Check my profile. You can take yourself out of their lists?
Comment posted on August 15th, 2006 at 08:24 PM
yeah you could. :) when you change usernames. i changed mine out of sheer irritation because most of my classmates know where my blog is and gossip and rumors come from the entries i post. i swear everyone thinks im always throwing stones at em. haha. and that tagger is a reason too. but of course she still found me. wah! hehe.
Comment posted on August 16th, 2006 at 08:08 AM
Aah, changing usernames. I thought pa naman you can choose who adds you or not. Haha.

She found you anyway? Wow. Can you spell obsessed?
Comment posted on August 16th, 2006 at 08:02 PM
i can spell loser too. :P
Comment posted on August 16th, 2006 at 10:32 PM
Also insanely insecure. LOL
Comment posted on August 14th, 2006 at 05:02 PM
Its nice to know that people add you/read your blog because of how you write, i dunno for you but its a major compliment for me. And yeah, making "papansin" by bloghopping is kinda annoying..
Comment posted on August 14th, 2006 at 08:42 PM
Yeah, it is a compliment. But I also look for the criticism. It'll help me become better as a writer.
Comment posted on August 14th, 2006 at 12:38 PM
orayt, man! it's in the writing. all in the writing.

i've got a default layout, too, y'know. hehehe. but i guess some changes may occur--in a very short while. ha-ha.

and yeah, thanks, by the way, for the sympathy.

happy writing!
Comment posted on August 14th, 2006 at 03:22 PM
Yep. One of my passions.

Changes? Made by that someone special? Hahahaha.

bloghopping! bwahahaha!! kidding!

seriously, i do hope the people who visit my blog actually read my entries... di lang dahil sa layout... T_T
Comment posted on August 14th, 2006 at 03:21 PM
Well, like I just tagged, the passion is in the writing. Personally I don't care who reads my blog and who doesn't. I just love writing.

As for you. Don't worry. You're a good writer naman eh. And I like passing by your site. ;)
Comment posted on August 17th, 2006 at 09:10 PM
wow! really? *jumps up and down like a giddy school girl* a lot of people praise my writing skills, i just don't believe them. LOL. thanks! =D

speaking of taggers, someone tagged me a month ago. he/she/it (maybe the tagger's gay.. i dunno) said that i blog about my boyfriend too much. he/she/it even called me malandi. -__-
Comment posted on August 17th, 2006 at 11:31 PM
Nah. That person's probably just jealous that he/she has no one to write about. Haha. I'm mean.
Comment posted on August 13th, 2006 at 11:04 PM
Oooooooh I have a tracker! Well, it's a counter that tracks all sorts of info from the visitor. I've had one all my bloglife lolz. It's cool cuz u get to see which countries they're from too. as in all information hahah.
Anyhoo.. I bloghop sometimes, but rarely leave tags/comments. When I read something I really like, or for some reason I like the feel of the person's blog, that's when I leave my mark.
Comment posted on August 13th, 2006 at 11:07 PM
We're the same dude. When it comes to visiting other people's blogs that is. Duh, that's how we met. Although I forgot who visited who. Haha.

Wow, it's nice to see your name in my comments again, kakamiss, haha.

I want a tracker also!!!

why the sudden irk ness on bloghoppers/bloghopping?

i do bloghop but yes, like you, i don't just leave tags, i actually read and do leave comments.

tsaka oo. nakikibasa na nga lang ang lakas pa ng loob mag-insulto. bad!

maybe i should get that tracker you're talking about. hmm.. ;-)

(oops, my comment wasn't posted)

"Just dropping by" -- this is my line. bloghopper here. :) i love bloghopping. i met my boyfriend for two years now because of bloghopping and reading entries.

though i actually read, i don't see anything wrong with people tagging just to get traffic on their sites. okay, posers annoy me, but those who just want attention.. hmm.. i see them as people wanting to gain friends. i don't see anything wrong with that. :)
Comment posted on August 13th, 2006 at 09:48 PM
Well, since you actually read, then there's nothing wrong with that. If you read my entry, my beef is with people who bloghop just to make papansin.

Gaining friends? Fine, nothing against that.
Comment posted on August 13th, 2006 at 09:59 PM
yeah, i'm just saying, until they actually do something offensive, don't judge. :)
Comment posted on August 13th, 2006 at 10:06 PM
I don't think I judged anyone...

I just stated why I don't like it, and why I think it's kinda...well...desperate for attention. I never actually <b>called</b> them anything. :-D
Comment posted on August 13th, 2006 at 10:08 PM
"Otherwise, you're just being pathetic."

I sensed an attack. :)
Comment posted on August 13th, 2006 at 10:13 PM
Take note of the word "otherwise". ;)

I don't attack people online. That's something reserved for people who aren't brave enough to do it in real life. Hahaha.
Comment posted on August 13th, 2006 at 10:16 PM
"If you're gonna "just drop by", why don't you check out what the site has to offer. Otherwise, you're just being pathetic."

From what I understood, if a person doesn't read (check out what the site has to offer), then he/she's pathetic.

I just disagree. ^___^

peace :)\/
Comment posted on August 13th, 2006 at 10:30 PM
Well, like I said, for me.

In my opinion, it <b>is</b> pathetic. It's a way of calling attention to one's blog because he doesn't have the capability to write interesting entries to call people to his blog.

Dropping by and commenting, is a different story. Because you actually <b>read</b> entries. Ever heard of "Do unto others"? This is what I understand to your first comment of making friends.
Comment posted on August 13th, 2006 at 10:33 PM
some people aren't good writers, i know. with their entries, they couldn't get people stay in their pages. truly enough, some of them just want to befriend others. :D

i really don't see nothing wrong with the 'just dropping by' line + not reading. :)

opinion respected, opinion made. ^__^
Comment posted on August 13th, 2006 at 10:40 PM
Dude, I'm sorry. I've been laughing at you for sometime now. I dunno, I think you're worried na I'm gonna get angry at you? Coz you said "peace", then "opinion respected...". Don't worry, dude. We're two friends having a healthy debate. And I'm not gonna take anything against you. Clear?

Back to the topic.

Yeah, well, while you don't see anything wrong, I do. Because they want people to read their blogs right? So here they are, tagging every tagboard they come upon, <b>not reading</b>. So they want people to read their entries when they can't even do the same? Isn't that kinda...makapal?
Comment posted on August 13th, 2006 at 10:43 PM
LOL, sorry, that's just my habit, saying peace and those goody stuff when i tend to disagree. :D if you find my other negative comments, you'll find that. :)

and yeah, i know you're not going to take anything against me. i think you're a level-headed person.

i still don't think anyone's 'makapal'. :D hihihi
Comment posted on August 13th, 2006 at 10:49 PM
Eh, I do eh. We really aren't gonna see eye to eye here huh?

Well, to make my side clear to you. I do have friends that were made through bloghops. I just don't like it when people bloghop, get people to read their blogs, and they can't even return the favor.
Comment posted on August 13th, 2006 at 10:52 PM
Hm, yeah, i see no future agreement. LOL.

Yeah, it may seem unfair that they have readers, but don't read.. but there are no rules about that. :) They just want to know people. ;)
Comment posted on August 13th, 2006 at 10:54 PM
They just wanna know people? Hmm, not for me. They wanna be known. Because they don't show any effort to know others. They want people to be the one to check them out.
